Qualifications

  • Medical Degree from a university recognized by the Medical Council of Jamaica;
  • Must be registered to practice medicine in Jamaica and have and maintain malpractice insurance;
  • Post graduate training in Family Medicine, Paediatrics, Internal Medicine, Haematology or Public Health would be an asset.

 

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development and updating of clinical care guidelines for the care of individuals with sickle cell disease both as out-patients and as in-patients at the SCU and its various outreach clinics;
  • To diagnose and manage patients with sickle cell disease and its complications at the SCU and its outreach clinics;
  • To provide clinical consultations for the care of patients with sickle cell disease at other hospitals/clinics upon request;
  • The coordination of inpatient care and conducting of clinical wards rounds;
  • The training of fellows and students in the clinical care of subjects with SCU;
  • To maintain accurate clinical records to facilitate good clinical care and research;
  • To participate in sickle cell neonatal screening as may be required;
  • To participate in clinical trials at the SCU;
  • To participate in clinical audits cycles;
  • Any other related responsibilities as assigned by the Director TMRI, Director Sickle Cell Unit or Head Clinical Services TMRI.

  • Strong interpersonal and client service skills.
